What will happen during my LASIK consultation at Updegraff Vision? How long does it take, and how much does it cost? At the end of the consultation, will I know whether I’m a LASIK candidate?
These are some of the most common questions we hear from patients interested in having LASIK surgery with Dr. Stephen Updegraff. And since one of our primary goals is to ensure that you’re as comfortable as possible with your entire LASIK experience, we want to make sure you know what to expect.
The LASIK consultation is one of the most critical components of your LASIK experience at Updegraff Vision, because it allows Dr. Updegraff to determine whether or not you’re a candidate for the surgery. Additionally, it gives you the opportunity to learn more about LASIK and to get acquainted with our staff – including Dr. Updegraff himself – before the day of your surgery.
When you arrive for your consultation, which is free of charge, you will meet with one of our surgical coordinators. This gives us a chance to learn more about you and what your expectations for LASIK are, as well as to educate you about the LASIK surgery itself.
You will then go with one of our certified ophthalmic technicians – each of whom has been trained with Dr. Updegraff – to begin our screening process for LASIK. This screening process, which many of our patients describe as being the most thorough eye exam of their lives, is designed to ensure that you are well-suited to the LASIK procedure. Because Dr. Updegraff is committed to providing you with the best possible outcome, he will only perform LASIK on you if he truly believes it is the safest, best option for your individual eyes.
During the screening process, we will use a state-of-the-art Pentacam to create a map of your cornea’s surface, measure your corneal thickness, and examine your eyes before and after Cycloplegic dilation. You will also have the opportunity to talk with Dr. Updegraff, and he will make his recommendation about whether or not you should pursue LASIK or another vision correction surgery.
By the end of your consultation at Updegraff Vision, you’ll know whether or not you’re a LASIK candidate, as well as what outcome you can expect from the surgery. If Dr. Updegraff has determined you to be a good candidate for LASIK, you can then schedule an appointment for your surgery.
